epilogue:

i always wonder if a counter protest like this helps solve something. do we really think anyone else but those already in agreement would see protests like this and suddenly come around to our side? as much as i wish we did not have to listen to racists, fascists, and nationalists, i believe refusing to talk to these people to figure out where this comes from will get us nowhere. these ideas feed off of the logic that because they are ignored, because they feel prosecuted, because they are left out of any serious political discourse in the public, it means that they are right, and that their truth is just so supreme it is unfathomable for the ideological "enemy" to comprehend and appreciate. these unwanted ideas are symptomatic of our time, and to uproot these old fashioned issues for good, we have to understand where they came from instead of pouring fuel onto the fire - just because we put our ideological principles before the workings of the real world and the very real people in it.
